Your Role
The Ice Operator (Level 1) is responsible for a wide range of tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the Ice Facilities for the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. Key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of Ice Resurfacers, ice making and maintaining a safe and clean facility for all user groups.
Your Responsibilities
Operate equipment including, but not limited to, Zambonis, ice edger’s, floor scrubbers, etc. Respond to emergencies including evacuation alarms, medical emergencies and other safety issues. Ensure the Ice Facilities are maintained to the highest degree of cleanliness and safety for all staff, patrons and user groups entering the RRC facilities. Create positive experiences for user groups including preparing the ice surface for rentals in a timely fashion, ensuring dressing rooms are assigned accordingly, answering inquiries about the facility, handling complaints. Able to navigate the maintenance planning computer program and perform preventative maintenance work pertaining to building and equipment maintenance in all RRC Facilities. Participates in and assists with facility-related projects. Assist in all aspects of the preparation and execution of events, programs and projects at the RRC. Ability to conduct maintenance tasks including but not limited to blade changing, oil changes, ice edging etc. Able to install an ice surface with minimal supervision, including but not limited to, seals, floods, line installation and painting. Comply with department procedures at all times and ensure building standards and efficiencies are maintained. Supports the training and onboarding of new entry level operators by providing hands on guidance and fostering a positive, collaborative learning environment. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED Equivalency. AARFP Arena Operator Level 1 (Equivalent certifications will be considered). Current Intermediate First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or equivalent (including CPR C). Minimum one (1) year experience in arena operations required. FIT Test may be required. AARFP Arena Operator Level 2 is asset Arial lift, fall protection, fork lift, skid steer courses are an asset. Building Maintenance Level 1 & 2 Certificate is an asset.
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrate ability to operate related equipment safely and efficiently. Thrive in a team environment, enjoy working as a team member as well as independently. Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Criminal Record Check Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Working Conditions
This position includes heavy lifting of supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs. This position requires work at varied heights from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms. This position requires a flexible rotating schedule including statutory holidays, early morning, late night, and weekend work. Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labor. This position may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.
