##Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Operations Manager and the direct supervision of the Crew Foreman, the Operator performs a variety of manual and operational tasks that support the successful completion of roadway or related infrastructure projects. The role contributes to daily project activities while ensuring all work is carried out in compliance with company policies and safety standards.
Responsibilities include the safe operation and routine maintenance of a Buffer Truck, as well as maintaining a general understanding of paint truck operations and supporting line painting activities as required. The position requires a strong commitment to workplace safety, teamwork, and efficient project execution.
##Main Responsibilities
- Contribute to road marking operations by supporting the application of center, edge, and lane line markings on highways and rural roads throughout various regions of British Columbia.
- Represent the Lafrentz brand professionally at all times while working, traveling, or staying in accommodations, and maintain strong accountability to team members.
- Operate and perform routine maintenance of the Buffer Truck, including monitoring vehicle condition, managing fuel usage, tracking mileage, and reporting any safety or mechanical issues to the Foreman.
- Conduct visual inspections of painted road lines and communicate any irregularities in dimensions, alignment, or line quality to the Paint Truck operator.
- Measure and record road lengths, intersections, and junction locations as directed by the Foreman.
- Maintain constant awareness of surrounding traffic and road conditions, including traffic buildup, oversized loads, emergency vehicles, or unsafe driver behavior, and relay this information to the Paint Truck operator.
- Assist with Paint Truck loading, setup, and general maintenance activities as required.
- Support pre-lining, layout, and other operational tasks by placing signs and cones, positioning the Buffer Truck, flagging traffic, and assisting with painting as directed by the Foreman.
- Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection reports in accordance with company safety procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
##Skills and Abilities
- Applies the safety guidelines linked to their activities including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Prepares for their work: analysis of the information concerning the carrying out of the work, transfer of vehicles to the construction site, installs construction site signs and provides access roads in compliance with the traffic rules for safe work.
- Takes care of the proper adjustment of their equipment and vehicles before operating them.
- Carries out the work, operating the vehicles according to the prerogatives of the required authorizations and ensuring safety.
- Carries out work based on precise directives from their hierarchy.
- Maintains vehicles:clearing and verification of vehicles after use, carries out standard upkeep (minor repairs) in observance of the company’s environmental guidelines and the regulations, notifies their manager in the event of anomalies.
- Strong reading comprehension (Grade 12 level) to accurately complete daily reports and required paperwork.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions promptly and efficiently.
- Mechanical aptitude and operational awareness for safe and effective equipment use.
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout British Columbia as required.
- Solid understanding of Lafrentz’s safety programs, policies, and procedures, particularly as they relate to Pavement Marking Crew operations, equipment, and the Quality Management System.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure in both high- and low-traffic environments.
- Flexibility to perform and substitute in all crew positions as needed.
- Previous experience or knowledge of line painting is an asset but not required.
##Requirements
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with air endorsement and a current 5-year commercial driver’s abstract.
- Access to reliable personal transportation.
- Six-inch steel-toed safety boots required.
##Working Conditions
- Physical capability to lift and handle up to 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work overtime as required.
- Awareness of and ability to safely manage trade-related hazards.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying and unpredictable weather conditions.
- This is a seasonal position, running from mid-March to mid-October each year. Lafrentz offers an Earned Time Off (ETO) program, allowing employees to receive pay during the winter months.
