The Town of Banff is seeking an individual in the role of Parade Coordinator for Canada Day 2026. The position reports to the Visitor Events Specialist and coordinates parade entries, volunteers and paid roles of the parade component of Canada Day activities in Banff.
The parade in 2026 will start at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, and continue for about 35 minutes as it moves from the parade staging area on Cougar Street and from Fox Street south on Banff Avenue to Buffalo Street. The parade involves marching bands, mounted horses, dance performers, floats, bicycle parade and commercial entries.
Safety is the top priority for staff and volunteers, parade participants and spectators. The Parade Coordinator implements requirements of the planning and recruitment phase in the weeks leading up to the parade, works with parade entry applicants, maps the order of parade entries and coordinates the staff and volunteers helping with the staging area and the parade route. After launching the and monitoring the parade, the work is complete for Canada Day. Several hours of post-event debrief and reporting and invoicing and payments are required. The position allows a flexible schedule with tracking of hours and delivery of requirements,
Job Duties Detail
Planning Stage: about 5-10 hours/week, for up to 9 weeks before July 1 (up to 80 hours)
- Assist in recruiting, registering and providing responsibilities to parade entries.
- Assist with the coordination of recruiting, registering, and planning duties for parade volunteers (and paying group honorarium where applicable).
- Assist with contracts, correspondences & invoices with parade participants/artists.
- Assist with the planning of the parade entry line up.
- Plan event & parade safety orientation for staff and volunteers.
- Attend weekly meetings, scheduled between Monday to Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Event Lead Up: ~ 20 hours
- Equipment staging, final follow-ups, safety orientation for staff and volunteers.
Parade Day: ~ 5 hours
- Assist in staging area site setup, such as volunteer tent, tables, parade number flags, and ensure barricades are in place and staffed.
- Act as the contact person for parade entries, staff and volunteers, and confirming duties. Act as liaison to residents on the staging area street to escalate concerns to other Town staff. Ensure responsibilities of parade entries and volunteers are understood, and personal protective equipment (e.g hi-vis vests) are provided, where applicable.
- Parade: Coordinate and manage the Parade staging area on Cougar St & Fox St to be ready to receive participants by 8 a.m. July 1. Inform Event Specialist ready to start. The receive parade entries back to staging area. Coordinate site cleanup and decommission volunteer tent, tables and barricades.
Post-Event: ~ 10 hours
- Complete follow-up emails with participants, artists and volunteers (invoices, thank you’s and survey).
- Provide a written event debrief by August 1.
