##The Opportunity
Banff Centre is excited to showcase the works of artists at this year's Banff Summer Arts Festival and participants of our Properties Technician Program. We're looking for a Head of Props who can work collaboratively to provide artistic support for this professional training program participants and related performances. Reporting to the Technical Director, this pivotal role plays a key part in bringing creative visions to life on stage.
##Roles and Responsibilities
- Management of properties to support the objectives of the Professional Training Program (PTP) program, and Dance Production Residency
- Close collaboration with the PTP faculty to provide the best learning opportunities for PTP program participants
- Coordinate with the PTP faculty the construction of properties required for training purposes
- Develop and manage props building schedules according to established deadlines
- Research, order, and as needed, shop for props and building materials
- Co-ordinate the preparation and costing of prop requirements
- Promote a safe, supportive and healthy work and learning environment during specified program or production
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe workshop, tools and storage areas
- Maintain the highest standards of production quality, safety and artistry
- Attend all production meetings and rehearsals as required
- Adhere to and uphold the implementation of any department policies and procedures to reach desired goals and objectives
- Administration of the Props department, including supervision of Props staff, with attention to safety procedures and within the supplied frameworks of budget, staffing, equipment, space and time.
##Qualification and Educational Requirements
- Diploma/Degree in Performing Arts/Arts Production or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years' experience working in a performing arts environment with props-related experience
- Experience supervising and coaching team members in technical/production-based artistic environments.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products with advanced Excel and Outlook skills.
- Reliable and self-motivated with the ability to work independently without close supervision.
- Strong attention to detail with strong administrative and effective communication skills.
- Proven organizational expertise and ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Customer-centric approach, which results in exceptional customer service delivery.
##Special Requirements
- Due to the nature of the work, the Head of Props will be expected to be available to work occasional evenings and weekends depending on performance schedules.
##Employment Terms & Benefits
- In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6 month probation period.
- The salary for this position is $1475 per week, based on working 40 hours per week.
- This is a term position from June 22 - July 31, 2026.
