INTRODUCTION:

New Path Youth and Family Services is an accredited children’s mental health agency providing a range of compassionate, innovative and accessible services for children, youth and their families throughout Simcoe County. PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Brief Counsellor provides shorter term individual, family and group counselling to children, youth and their families at home, in school and throughout the community using a brief model of intervention. This position participates in the myDAWN pathway (Depression, Anxiety, Wellness, and Navigation). A partnership with the Georgian Bay Family Health Team, where Family Doctors and Counsellors work together to offer seamless, and timely mental health care to support our mutual clients.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Assess the needs of children, youth and families, formulating treatment plans including goals and service strategies.

• Meet with clients and/or their families to provide support & counselling, using evidence based/informed programs.

• Assist client(s) in making referrals to community resources as needed.

• Provide consultation to New Path Staff, other agency personnel or the community.

• Function as a supportive member of the team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W)

• Minimum two years' experience working with children, youth and their families in a children's mental health or related service

• Experience/training in Single Session Counselling

• Experience working with evidence based/informed programs

• Continuously assesses and challenges assumptions, personal unconscious bias and commits to understanding diverse perspectives, experiences and their intersectionality.

• Commits to ongoing training to build the knowledge, awareness and skills, that contribute to creating a culturally safe environment for staff, clients and families.

• Competency and effective use of database and Microsoft Office systems.

• Confident, articulate and professional when communicating verbally and in writing.

• French language is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be available to provide 4 hours per week of direct service to clients after 5PM (evening appointments) to accommodate client and family schedules.

• This position is primarily performed in office/on-site to support the in-person meeting preferences of our clients and families. Some administrative tasks (non-client facing work) can be requested to be completed remotely (Work From Home).

• Willingness to travel to other agency offices and community using personal vehicle. Must have valid driver's license with minimum G2.

• Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
