##Overview
The Technical Staff role supports the department of Computer Science's programs and researchers at the Barrie STEM Hub. Teaching labs for Computer Science courses and supervising Graduate Assistants, who will also take care of some laboratory instruction. This role is also responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of computer labs and the HPC Cluster that will be part of Barrie STEM Hub.
##Responsibilities
- Support the installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of Computer Science teaching laboratories and the Barrie STEM Hub High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster.
- Install, update, and maintain operating systems, development tools, software packages, network configurations, and security patches for lab and HPC systems.
- Monitor system performance, storage allocation, network connectivity, and scheduling software (e.g., SLURM or equivalent), resolving issues proactively.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, peripherals, and specialized computing environments used for teaching and research (e.g., AI/ML, robotics, distributed systems).
- Coordinate technical requirements with Lakehead TSC for infrastructure, networking, and system integration.
- Assist with system updates, testing, user-access configurations, and documentation.
- Provide hands-on instructional support for Computer Science laboratories delivered at the Barrie STEM Hub (introductory and advanced courses).
- Assist faculty with lab demonstrations, troubleshooting coding issues, explaining tools and environments, and providing in-lab technical guidance to students.
- Prepare and maintain lab materials (tutorials, example code, exercises, and instructions) as directed by course instructors.
- Assist faculty and graduate students with technical aspects of research computing
- Provide general technical support for research projects aligned with departmental priorities.
- Provide training sessions and one-on-one support
- Develop short manuals, tutorials, and technical guidelines to support safe and effective use of lab technologies and virtual/remote lab platforms and HPC equipment.
- Attend and provide technical support to program coordinators for recruitment events on behalf of Department of Computer Science's programs. e.g., Grade 12 and 11 preview days, Open Houses etc.
- Support other Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies programs also when necessary and as directed.
##Qualifications
- M.Sc. degree in Computer Science.
- Linux systems administration and networking
- Computer Programming in C/C++, Java, SQL Databases, Python and Assembly Programming.
- Ontario Driving License
- Programming Mobile, Web and Networking Certification needed
- D2L Course Management required
