About the role
We are presently accepting applications from qualified placement students to cover LOA (2.5 months) position within our Alternatives Program:

##Position: Full Time –Contract: 2.5 months (April 13 to July 8, 2026)
##Base Locations: Brant****Office
Start Date: April 13, 2026
Hours of Work: 35 hours
Starting Wage: as per Collective Bargaining Agreement
This position provides social recreation and life skills activities to adults, 16 yrs. and above, who self-identify with symptoms of mental illness, utilizing a Psychosocial Rehabilitation & Recovery model approach. Reliable transportation is required. A full job description is available upon request. Hours of work will require some flexibility, but are typically during weekday, daytime hours depending on program and client requirements. Some evening and/or weekend work may be required. The base location will be the Brant office in the Alternatives Activity Centre. Flexibility of location may be required based on program need.
The Alternatives Programprovidesvarioussocial/recreational activities and life skills groups integrating members into the community.**Social Recreation Workers provide supportive counselling and intervention techniques to promote recovery and skills enhancement.**This program isexpected****to support a minimum of 190 clients each year.
Preference is for either a minimum of 2 years post-Secondary education in Recreation and Leisure or current enrollment towards graduation or minimum of anSSW and/or relevant experience, with demonstrated familiarity and understanding of Brant, Haldimand & Norfolk mental health & addiction services.
Additional Preferences & Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of Psycho-Social Rehabilitation and Recovery principles.
- Related work experience (2+ years preferred) in a mental health service environment.
- Presently certified in Emergency First Aid and CPR.
- Knowledge of local community programs and services.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and computer skills; experience in Client Data Systems (EMHWare), Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with psychiatric assessments and assessment instruments (i.e.. OCAN, GAIN-SS, OPOC) and progress reports.
- A current police vulnerable sector records check is required.
