The Ministry of the Solicitor General facility includes a 100 bed Secure Treatment Unit (STU) to service the needs of incarcerated offenders with mental illness; and the STU has been designated a Schedule 1 facility under the Mental Health Act by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
Duties
Provide professional social work and crisis intervention services to seriously mentally ill clients. Develop and implement creative treatment and recovery plans, support services and programs responsive to clients’ needs. Engage client, family and caregivers in clinical interventions and risk reduction strategies with the interdisciplinary team. Advocate on behalf of clients, families and caregivers for appropriate services and resources. Collaborate, consult and liaise with the interdisciplinary team and community service providers. Maintain appropriate documentation and data collection, in accordance with hospital, college and legislative standards. Participate in the development and delivery of psycho-educational and information sessions for clients, families, service providers, and the community. Participate in the teaching, education and supervision of Social Work students. Complete and maintain all requirements for registration with OCSWSSW.
Qualifications
Masters of Social Work degree from an accredited university. Three years’ experience in a mental health setting. Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Knowledge, skills and training in concurrent disorders. High level of knowledge, skill and confidence in using electronic health record systems for clinical documentation and navigation. Knowledge of community resources, corrections, and applicable legislated acts (MHA, PHIPA, The Health Care Consent Act, etc.). Understanding of recovery-based treatment and programs of clients with severe and persistent mental illness Demonstrate ability to work both independently and in a professional inter-disciplinary team environment. Strong advocacy & conflict resolutions skills Strong organizational skills and work ethic, with excellent oral and written communication skills. English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.

Salary Range: 46.33 to 57.26 per hour
