Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and evaluate therapeutic recreation programs for the Forensic Psychiatry - Assessment Inpatient Unit, aligned with client needs and clinical goals.
- Provide individual, small‑group, and adapted activities to support varied abilities and interests.
- Complete assessments and required documentation (initial, quarterly, and annual reports) following ROHCG policies and TRO Standards of Practice.
- Develop individualized recreation plans based on clients’ strengths, needs, goals, and functioning.
- Work closely with the interdisciplinary team and families to support client participation, goal‑setting, and continuity of care.
- Coordinate recreation services with internal partners and community agencies.
- Prepare written program plans outlining goals, staffing, space, and equipment requirements.
- Maintain program policies, procedures, and equipment resources.
- Stay current with best practices and emerging trends related to mental health, substance use, and concurrent disorders.
- Actively participate in the ROMHC Recreation Therapy Discipline and report on professional standards and practice issues.
- Supervise students and volunteers, providing guidance and learning opportunities within the recreation therapy setting.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Recreation/Leisure Studies or an Allied Health Degree with a post-grad Therapeutic Recreation diploma will be considered.
- Experience working with clients living with moderate to severe mental illness.
- Knowledge of the impact of diagnosis on leisure functioning.
- Ability to develop, plan and lead a variety of recreation therapy, leisure education and participation programs that are client-centered, evidence-based and outcome oriented.
- Experience conducting leisure assessments, developing and delivering therapeutic programs, evaluation of programs and services, documenting to reflect client-centered outcomes and progress, and facilitating links with the community.
- Experience working in a hospital, interdisciplinary setting.
- Experience with provision of individual and group programming is required, including goal setting.
- Membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is an asset.
- English level A- in oral expression, oral comprehension, and preferred in reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
Salary Range:
45.45 to 54.10 per hour
