Geography Teacher (Indigenous Rights & Education)
Gary Allan Learning Centres is seeking qualified applicants to supervise, teach, and evaluate self-identifying Indigenous students enrolled in a credit course. The course is being offered using a hybrid model, with in-class days at a summer school site, experiential education opportunities, and synchronous online learning. Please note that during synchronous learning days, the teacher may work off-site, within Ontario, subject to meeting the Board requirements for this and the completion of an attestation form.
We are currently seeking candidates for the following credit course:
The Environment and Resource Management (CGR4M)
Successful candidate(s) will:
- Teach students using a hybrid model including: on site during in-class days, attend experiential learning opportunities, and teach synchronously online during the remainder of the days in the course.
- Work in collaboration with the Indigenous Rights and Education Department to develop and deliver curriculum grounded in Indigenous Rights and ensure assessment and evaluation of curriculum expectations that meets Ministry of Education and HDSB policies & procedures
- Bring the curriculum to life through experiential learning, Best Practices, application of the Selection of Instructional and Library Resources Administrative Procedure
- Arrange transportation and parental/guardian consent to participate in various learning opportunities and events
- Deliver instruction using a synchronous format using board approved software (Google Meet & Brightspace D2L).
- They will integrate system supports to meet the unique needs of Indigenous students and their families, with a focus on Indigenous rights, student achievement, well-being, and graduation.
Qualifications:
- Senior qualifications in Geography required
- First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Histories and Current Realities part 1 preferred
- Summer school teaching and experience working in the Brightspace (D2L) environment is considered an asset
- Experience with organizing field trips and transportation considered an asset
- First Aid certification is considered an asset
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with a strong understanding of student vulnerabilities
- Ability to safeguard and handle confidential information and adhere to HDSB’s privacy and information management expectations
Dates
Full Credit Courses (110 hours): June 29 to July 27
- First class meeting at a summer school site (TBD): Monday, June 29
- In class, synchronous online, & experiential education opportunities: June 30 - July 27
- Monday, July 27 - Mark reporting deadline
Compensation
-
$61.50 per hour (includes vacation and statutory holiday pay) to maximum of 110 hours
