The Buyer is responsible for the procurement and replenishment of inventory to support customer demand and business objectives. This role manages supplier relationships, analyzes inventory requirements, and coordinates purchasing activities to ensure product availability while maintaining optimal inventory levels and cost effectiveness.
The Buyer works closely with suppliers, sales, customer service, logistics, warehouse operations, and product management teams to support business growth, improve supply chain performance, and deliver exceptional customer service.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Procurement & Purchasing Create, review, and manage purchase orders to support inventory requirements and customer demand. Monitor inventory levels and proactively identify replenishment needs. Maintain appropriate inventory levels while balancing service requirements and inventory investment. Follow established procurement policies, procedures, and approval processes. Ensure purchasing transactions are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Inventory Planning & Management Analyze inventory reports, sales trends, forecasts, and purchasing data to support inventory decisions. Monitor stock availability and take action to prevent shortages, stockouts, and excess inventory. Assist with inventory optimization initiatives and inventory reduction strategies. Support cycle count investigations and inventory discrepancy resolution. Participate in inventory planning activities and product lifecycle management. Supplier Relationship Management Develop and maintain positive working relationships with suppliers and vendors. Monitor supplier performance, delivery timelines, and service levels. Follow up on open purchase orders, shipment schedules, and backorders. Escalate supply issues and work collaboratively with suppliers to resolve concerns. Assist in identifying opportunities for supplier improvement and cost savings. Supply Chain Coordination Collaborate with logistics, warehouse, and customer service teams to ensure timely product availability. Monitor inbound shipments and communicate delays or supply disruptions to affected stakeholders. Support supply chain improvement initiatives and process enhancements. Assist with product launches, promotions, and special purchasing requirements. Reporting & Analysis Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, and supplier information within SAP and other business systems. Generate and analyze reports related to inventory levels, purchasing activity, backorders, and supplier performance. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities and provide recommendations for improvement. Support procurement reporting and departmental performance metrics.
Profile: Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred. Minimum 2–5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory management, or supply chain operations. Experience working in a distribution, manufacturing, wholesale, or inventory-driven environment is considered an asset. Experience using SAP or other ERP systems is preferred. Strong understanding of purchasing, inventory management, and supply chain principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including intermediate to advanced Excel skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to interpret data and make informed business decisions. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and business partners. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team environment. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and customer service excellence. Adaptable and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong sense of accountability, professionalism, and ownership of responsibilities.
