About the Role
The Radiation Safety Technician maintains the inventory of all radioisotopes on campus and maintains instrumentation in the Radionuclide Facility. Controls and monitors the acquisition, use, storage, transfer, shipping, and disposal of all radioactive materials. Provides related technical/safety training, expertise, and assistance to University faculty, staff and students using radionuclides. Monitors the use of radioisotopes in University laboratories to ensure compliance with regulations of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and other regulatory bodies. Responds immediately to incidents involving radioactive materials by coordinating and directing clean up procedures. Provides occasional support to EHS Program Managers for training and equipment survey and tracking related activities.
