As a Collections Officer, you will be working with customers and citizens in a caring and compassionate way, while supporting the essential behaviours of our organization by demonstrating Competence, Character, Commitment and Collaboration. You are responsible for the maintenance and administration of the collection of Property Tax, Business Improvement Area (BIA) Tax, Corporate Receivables, and management of Credit. Primary duties include:
- Prioritize receivables and ensure timely settlement of accounts.
- Initiate collections through telephone outreach, written correspondence, and field visits as needed.
- Document all communications within appropriate systems.
- Collaborate with other business units to address disputed invoices and billings.
- Undertake contact verification and location activities to obtain current customer contact information.
- Update and maintain accurate customer source data.
- Assess and verify the status of business or personal assets to determine payment capacity.
- Review credit applications, communicate with trade creditors, evaluate credit scores, and conduct financial analyses.
- Provide property owners with information and guidance regarding Business Tax Payment Plans (BTIPP) and Tax Installment Payment Plans (TIPP).
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year Business or Technical certificate/diploma plus at least 5 years of related collection, credit investigation and credit granting experience.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use is required.
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel is required.
- An understanding and applied knowledge in considering credit worthiness.
- Working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, Civil Enforcement Act, and By-laws will be considered assets.
- Demonstrate strong communication and conflict resolution abilities, exercising tact and diplomacy when interacting with delinquent account holders.
Pre-employment Requirements
- A security clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Workstyle
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Union: CUPE Local 38
Position Type: 1 Temporary (up to 18 months)
Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $41.49 - 55.51 per hour
Hours of work: Standard 35-hour work week.
Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3-week cycle.
