As the Coordinator, Animal Care & Clinic Services, you will provide direct supervision, leadership and strategic guidance to the Animal Care and Clinic Services teams. You will ensure a safe and rewarding environment for staff and the animals in our care and ensure that citizens and partner agencies receive high quality service when utilizing our programs. Primary duties include:
- Provide leadership and oversee the daily business operations for the animal shelter.
- Participate in recruitment, training, schedule staff, assign work and perform all aspects of performance management. Establish long-term planning and staffing requirements.
- Ensure optimal care, length of stay and a healthy and safe environment for staff and animals.
- Review pet files with the veterinarian to discuss complex and challenging cases.
- Develop and revise plans to address special situations including population management, capacity issues or contagious disease outbreaks.
- Coordinate pet adoption events and manage and oversee the adoption program, including media interviews.
- Act as a subject matter expert for the animal shelter database system.
- Provide guidance and requirements in relation to the No Cost Spay/Neuter Program.
- Oversee the development and execution of the Wise Whisker bite prevention education program, foster program and volunteer program.
- Monitor the budget for Animal Care and Clinic Services and manage supply purchases.
- Provide guidance on animal behaviour, enrichment and shelter best practices in relation to adoptability, disease control, animal welfare legislation, bylaws and standards of care.
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year diploma and at least 8 years of related experience in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic, including experience in a direct supervisory role, OR;
- A degree and at least 4 years of related experience in an animal shelter or veterinary clinic, including experience in a direct supervisory role.
- Experience with human resources in a direct supervisory role is preferred.
- Experience in a licensing/regulatory environment will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of a wide range of computer software systems, familiarity with accounts payable, and understanding of budgeting/financials will be an asset.
- Exceptional leadership and communication abilities, supported by strong planning and organizational skills, effective conflict resolution, sound judgement and decision-making skills and emotional intelligence are essential for this role.
Working Conditions: Works in an office environment with some time spent in an animal shelter environment.

- A security clearance will be conducted.

Position and Pay Information
Business Unit: Emergency Management & Community Safety
Union: Exempt
Position Type: 1 Permanent
Compensation: Level A2 $115,627 - 144,534 per annum
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
