About the role
Reports To: Production Supervisor / Shop Team Lead
Location: York Precast Inc. Production Facility
Position Summary
ThePrecast Crane Operator(Tilting & Loading – Table Operations) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of overhead crane equipment used in the production facility to tilt precast panels from casting tables, move materials, and load finished panels for storage or transportation.
This role is critical to plant productivity and requires strong attention to safety, communication with production teams, and a thorough understanding of rigging, lifting procedures, and load control. The operator must ensure that all lifts are conducted safely while protecting precast products from damage during handling and transportation.
Key Responsibilities

Safely operate overhead crane equipment used to tilt precast panels from casting tables.

Move precast products, forms, reinforcing steel, and other materials throughout the plant.

Assist with lifting, handling, and positioning panels for finishing, storage, or shipping.

Load finished precast panels onto trailers or transport frames.

Inspect crane equipment and rigging at the start of each shift to ensure safe operation.

Maintain constant communication with signalers and team members using radio and hand signals.

Ensure proper rigging methods including slings, shackles, spreader bars, and lifting devices.

Monitor center of gravity and load balance when lifting precast panels.

Stop crane operations immediately if unsafe conditions are identified.

Assist with setting up storage frames or A-frames for panel storage and transport.

Verify load dimensions and placement to avoid transportation damage or regulatory issues.

Maintain crane equipment through routine cleaning, greasing, and inspection.

Ensure surrounding work area remains clear of hazards.

Report safety concerns, equipment issues, or product defects to the supervisor.

Assist production crews when crane operation is not required.

Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
-
Certified Crane Operator (Red Seal or equivalent certification preferred).
-
Minimum 5+ years of experience in Precast Concrete, Manufacturing, Construction or other related industry.

Experience operating overhead cranes in a manufacturing or construction environment.
-
Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License with reliable transportation.

Strong understanding of rigging, lifting procedures, and load charts.

Ability to communicate effectively with team members and signalers.

Strong awareness of surroundings and jobsite hazards.

Ability to read drawings or notes relating to lifting or shipping requirements.

Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing physical tasks as needed.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Preferred Assets
-
Experience operating overhead cranes in a precast concrete production facility.

Experience with panel tilting operations on casting tables.
-
Rigging and hoisting certification.
-
Forklift or material handling equipment experience.
-
Standard First Aid Certification.
