About the role
This position reports to the Manager, Project Controls & Governance and is responsible for capital cost estimating activities within ATCO EnPower. Provides oversight, supervises, or produces estimate product and makes estimate product presentations as required. Provides estimating guidance and support to projects of varying degrees of complexity and levels of development maturity. Performs related organizational and administrative activities as directed in the pursuit of EnPower business. Provides related guidance, leadership and training to others as required on projects or within programs. This role will interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of organization, and is expected to consistently apply exceptional interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
Responsibility Area #1 –Development & Oversight of Estimating Process
- Establish an estimating framework, including standardized procedures, methods, and processes for estimating projects
- Conduct project look backs to compare actual performance to proposals and make recommendations on process improvements to increase profitability and accuracy
- Build effective relationships with customers, design team, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer’s expectations.
- Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, attending conferences, and cultivate external relationships
- Grow ATCO EnPower’s estimating expertise in applying industry’s latest best practices
- Be a part of the decision-making team in identifying best approach to managing and maintaining historical cost database (and other software solutions)
- Collect, analyze, and summarize information and trends
Responsibility Area #2 –Project Support
- Review project plans and specifications with the team to confirm project scope
- Review significant contractor proposals and provide recommendations
- Will onboard and orient project estimators in estimation expectations aligned with ATCO EnPower estimating framework
- Work with project estimators in preparing and approving Basis of Estimate
- Participate in project meetings as required, such as kick-offs, reviews, constructability reviews, etc.
- Ensure that estimates created align with ATCO EnPower’s expectations and methodology
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Minimum 10 years of work experience in Industrial Construction projects, with at least 5 years of estimating experience
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Business
- Certified Cost Estimator/Analyst (CCEA) or Certified Estimating Professional (CEP)
- PMP, CAPM, P.Eng, considered an asset
- Experience across several Industrial sectors, in particular experience in Renewables, Production Plants, Pipelines, and Water/Wastewater is highly desirable
- Exposure to Supply Chain Management and Project Controls would be considered an asset
- Must have excellent organizational, communication, and analytical abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of supervisors and employees.
- The ability to establish and build effective working relationships.
- Ability to work independently and in team.
- Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies
- Be proficient in all computer software programs, such as MS Office, Oracle products, and project management software
