Job Summary
The GSE Maintenance Utility Technician is an entry-level support position responsible for performing foundational mechanical tasks, preventive maintenance assistance, shop organization, and equipment staging to support the GSE Maintenance team. Working under the direct guidance of GSE Technicians and the Manager, the Utility Technician increases shop efficiency by preparing equipment, tools, and work areas for inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs.
This role serves as the first step in the GSE Maintenance career ladder and provides structured training, hands-on experience, and development toward the GSE Technician-I role.
Pay Range $20-$24 CAD per hour.

Job Duties:
- Assist technicians with PM inspections by performing non-certified tasks.
- Check and replenish fluids (engine oil, coolant, hydraulic fluid, DEF).
- Replace basic service items such as air filters, fuel filters, and hydraulic filters.
- Inspect belts, hoses, tires, batteries, and visible wear components.
- Clean radiators, battery terminals, and equipment surface to support accurate PM evaluation.
- Perform simple repairs under supervision (lights, fuses, batteries, tires, seat switches).
- Assist with component removal and installation.
- Support troubleshooting by staging tools, parts, and diagnostic equipment.
- Perform battery testing, charging, and replacement.
- Assist with hose replacement, clamp installation, and minor mechanical adjustments.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in compliance with Unifi, ECCC, WHMIS, and CanOSH standards.
- Stage equipment for PMs, inspections, and repairs.
- Safely move GSE around the ramp, yard, and shop area.
- Maintain inventory of consumables, fluids, filters, and shop supplies.
- Assist with waste disposal, spill cleanup, and environmental compliance tasks.
- Complete basic work order entries in the company’s CMMS (AssetWorks) following CCC standards.
- Report abnormal findings, safety hazards, and equipment conditions to senior technicians or supervisors.
- Follow all safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE requirements, and shop protocols.
- Support compliance with CanOSH, TCCA, airport authority, and company policies.
- Participate in on-the-job training, classroom instruction, and skill development activities.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and willingness to learn from senior technicians.

Qualifications
- Secondary School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Mechanical aptitude and interest in equipment maintenance.
- Zero (0) to two (2) years of experience in automotive, diesel, small engine, or mechanical repair preferred but not required.
- Motorized will be overseen by a journeyperson.
- Provides all needed hand tools. Company provides specialty tooling.
- Ability to learn and follow technical instructions, PM checklists, and safety procedures.
- Basic understanding of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret simple diagrams, labels, and maintenance forms.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn from senior technicians.
- Must be 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Must be able to pass required background checks and drug screening.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work various hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Work performed in both indoor shop environments and outdoor ramp areas.
- Exposure to weather conditions including rain, snow, heat, and cold.
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, aircraft, vehicles, fumes, and loud noise.
- Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
- Work pace varies and is often fast-paced with tight time constraints.
