Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and Electrical Foreperson, you will be a key member of the Water Treatment Electrical Maintenance team, responsible for the lifecycle replacement and upgrade of electrical systems. Your work will primarily focus on industrial electrical and instrumentation tasks, as well as preventive maintenance and repair activities across The City of Calgary's water treatment plants, pump stations, and water storage reservoirs. This role emphasizes collaboration, adherence to safety protocols, and effective teamwork within and across Water Treatment workgroups. Primary duties include:
- Install, replace, maintain, calibrate and repair electrical and instrumentation systems and related electrical and instrumentation equipment.
- Maintain, operate low, medium, and high voltage switchgear.
- Test circuitry to ensure integrity and safety.
- Calibrate and maintain water quality analyzers for regulatory licensing.
- Read, interpret and redline electrical schematics and instrumentation loop drawings.
- Position, maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches, relays, circuit breaker panels and fuse enclosures.
- Use testing devices to inspect test instrument and calibrate system operation and diagnose faults.
Qualifications
- A valid Journeyman Electrician certificate, with Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement, or equivalent as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board.
- Applicants must qualify for Confined Space Entry certification.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Preference will be given to applicants with 4 years of related Journeyperson Water or Wastewater experience.
- Experience with industrial maintenance, and engine driven power generation will also be preferred.
- Completed instrumentation courses and/or a Journeyman Instrumentation Technician Certificate or Instrumentation Technologist Certification are also considered assets.
- Success in this position requires excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions: This position is required to work at heights, in confined spaces and is exposed to noise, electrical equipment, and high voltage.
Pre-employment Requirements
- A security clearance will be conducted.
- Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
