Working within the City Clerk's Office business unit and reporting to the Assistant Director, Elections and Strategic Engagement division, this position provides strategic leadership, acts as a trusted corporate advisor, and oversees the end-to-end delivery of:

• Civic engagement programs;
• Council recognition events and services;
• Protocol services, and
• Corporate projects, inclusion, service improvement and partnerships initiatives.

This role carries a significant responsibility to represent The City of Calgary in a politically and culturally sensitive, positive, and professional manner, helping to uphold and enhance The City's respected public image.

The Leader, Civic Engagement and Protocol leads a small, dynamic team working collaboratively with division and business management teams and internal and external partners to advance the objectives of the City Clerk's Office.

Qualifications

• A degree in Public Administration, Communications, Business, Education, Journalism, or a related field.
• At least 4 years of related experience, including supervisory experience; experience working with partners and interested parties at all levels; public engagement; large-scale corporate event management; and protocol experience involving political dignitaries.
• Experience in project management or project coordination.
• Related certification in event management, protocol or public participation is considered an asset.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines, think strategically, and lead and implement change. Strong organizational, decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Understanding effective team leadership principles and creative thinking.
• Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
