- A sense of confidence that they can succeed We are seeking passionate and experienced Adjunct Instructors to teach in our new Calgary Trades and Technologies Collegiate. This innovative program provides high school students with structured pathways into skilled trades and technology careers through immersive, hands-on learning experiences on SAIT's campus. As an Adjunct Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in inspiring the next generation of skilled trades professionals by delivering engaging, industry-informed learning experiences in a purpose-built trades learning environment. Instructors will teach high school students in trades related to the construction industry, including both restricted and unrestricted trades and instruction will focus on introducing students to foundational trade concepts through hands-on, project-based learning activities.
We need instructors in the following trades areas
Electrical: Conduit runs, junction boxes, outlets, switches, and a functional breaker system Plumbing: Supply and drain lines, fixtures, and fittings HVAC: Ductwork, registers, and mock thermostats Drywall: Hanging, taping, mudding, and sanding sheetrock Finishing Carpentry: Installing trim, molding, and casing \n
Responsibilites
Instruction & Student Success
- Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction aligned with SAIT policies, procedures, and educational best practices.
- Facilitate demonstrations, projects, and experiential learning activities for high school learners.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
- Build positive relationships with students and support learner engagement and participation.
- Mentor and coach students while providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
- Promote awareness of skilled trades career pathways and educational opportunities.
- Ensure student safety throughout the program.
Classroom & Program Management
- Maintain attendance records and monitor student progress, professionalism, and engagement.
- Communicate student progress and concerns to the Youth Initiatives team and partner school boards.
- Maintain classroom environments, ensuring safe use of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Support compliance with all SAIT policies and procedures, including Protection of Minors on Campus and Youth Activities policies.
- Share student information appropriately and in accordance with privacy requirements and PIPA guidelines.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with Youth Initiatives staff, school board partners, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain current industry knowledge and support ongoing program relevance.
- Contribute ideas that enhance instructional practices, learner engagement, and program delivery.
- Provide feedback on learning activities and assist with continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
Required
- Journeyperson Certificate in a relevant construction trade.
- Minimum 3–5 years of industry experience in your trade area.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the trades identified above.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to create engaging, learner-focused educational experiences.
- Commitment to student success and inclusive learning environments.
- Genuine interest in working with youth and supporting career exploration.
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (required upon hire).
Preferred
- Previous experience working with high school aged-learners is preferred but not required.
Working Conditions
These positions require in-person work, primarily on-site at SAIT's Main Campus. Work takes place within a classroom environments with some hand tools. Physical requirements may include lifting materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Exposure to active workshop environments and moderate noise levels. Daytime weekday programming aligned with high school schedules. The program takes place Monday to Thursday afternoons for the Fall 2026 semester. Instructors will be required to be on campus from 12:30pm – 4:30pm daily. Contract start date: September 1, 2026. Training will take place between September 1 and September 11, 2026 (12 hours). The program duration is anticipated to be Monday, September 14, 2026 – Thursday, January 28, 2026. This program will follow the high school semester timeframe and will follow the high school semester schedule.
