About This Position
About the Role
Working within the Cougars Athletics and Recreation department, these are flexible positions whose work schedule is variable and may include an irregular schedule of not less than three (3) hours per shift and up to thirty-five (35) hours per week. These positions will end March 31, 2027.
The Broadcast Producer oversees Canada West TV production for Cougars home games. This role is responsible for setting up the broadcast equipment, coordinating with camera operators and commentators, managing all technical components of the broadcast, and ensuring that every stream meets the quality expectations set by Mount Royal and Canada West.
The producer is the central figure in the broadcast booth, directing traffic and responding to any live issues. It’s a role that combines media production, live directing, and event coordination in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. This position is a strong fit for someone with a background in live broadcasting or film and a passion for sports media.
Responsibilities
Pre-Game
Collecting pertinent information from Sports Information Supervisor
Making any necessary changes to graphics, videos or rosters Create content for broadcast on a weekly basis Setting up broadcast equipment prior to the arrival of broadcasting crew Completing sound/video checks with crew Running through the scripts with the crew before the game and making them aware of any changes
In-Game
Operating live broadcast production during game, responsible for production of an engaging and respectful live show for viewers Directing on-air camera personnel and broadcasting crew to meet live production standards Troubleshooting any problems that may arise during broadcast with equipment or personnel
Post-Game
Responsible for equipment takedown and storage
Completing inventory checklist to ensure all equipment is returned and in good condition Follow up with staff or Supervisor regarding any issues that may have occurred
Qualifications
12 - 18 months of related experience MRU students enrolled in the broadcasting or journalism program (preferred) Passion for sports and understanding of basketball, hockey, soccer and/or volleyball Experience in live broadcast production an asset Excellent time management and troubleshooting skills Ability to plan, prioritize and meet tight deadlines Must be able to work independently and with a team with minimal supervision
Salary: $21.87 - $27.61 per hour
