As a Financial Reporting Consultant, you will provide expert advice and technical guidance on corporate financial policies and proactively assist in the preparation of The City's annual report process and other internal financial reports as well as complete research and analysis related to proposed transactions or accounting standards. Primary duties include: Prepare, coordinate, and develop reports and analyses to strengthen the continued integrity of The City's financial statements and reporting processes. Review financial reporting packages for compliance with regulatory requirements and consistency with corporate policies. Coordinate The City's financial consolidation processes and prepare the financial consolidation. Develop, plan, coordinate and lead corporate financial policy development, studies and implementation. Analyze and comment on policy implications and requirements related to annual financial reporting. Review existing and potential financial policies and annual financial reports of other municipalities, governments, not-for-profit and private sector organizations that may be of interest to The City. Identify benchmarks and provide recommendations on best practices regarding financial policies and reporting processes. Support ongoing modernization efforts within The City's financial reporting processes.
Qualifications
A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and at least 5 years of related experience, preferably in a mid-size to large CPA environment in the audit/review stream. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and PowerPoint) and advanced proficiency in Excel is required. Familiarity with a large enterprise accounting system such as PeopleSoft Financial and Supply Chain Management (FSCM) is considered an asset. Previous experience with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE), and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) will also be considered assets. Experience in financial consolidations, including preparing consolidated financial statements is considered an asset. Exceptional technical skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to direct and work effectively with others who are not direct reports. Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail; the ability to plan, coordinate and manage conflicting priorities; and well-developed communication skills in order to deliver presentations.
