The Dino's in the Faculty of Kinesiology is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time Men's Hockey Field Therapist.

This position is to augment field events coverage with in the University of Calgary Dinos Athletics programs. Successful candidates will be working as part of the medical team that supports the Dinos athletes. As a member of team, the Field Therapist will reports to Manager, Athletic Therapy.

Travel is to be expected in supporting teams at away events. The job includes Emergency Action Plan (EAP) activation, injury assessment and management, rehabilitation recommendations, and return to sport for the athletes participating in Dinos athletics. This position demands availability in the evenings and on weekends for event coverage. The normal shift varies in length of time with the minimum length of shift being 3 hours. Hours will vary during the year. The nature of the work can be stressful depending on the severity of injuries incurred. The employee reports to the Manager of Athletic Therapy.

This is a seasonal position, working practices and games with the Dinos Men's Hockey Program. Start date includes orientation and preseason preparation. End date is variable based on season performance. Successful candidate must have completed athletic therapy coursework at an approved institution. They must have first responder, safe sport and BLS.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to)

Maintain stock within facility and medical kit. Pack kit and medical supplies for travel purposes Be knowledgeable of, and follow contemporary return to play guidelines Prophylactics and preventative taping and performance preparation for designated sporting event Review/establish and EAP for assigned venue, and enact when necessary First Aid treatment as required Review and manage injuries according to their severity and create contemporary management plans in coordination with the full time staff of the Atheltic therapy team Assist injured athletes in the entrance of the medical system (ie ER or U of C Sport medicine centre). Communicate with AT staff, doctors coaches/athletes, the injury status and management plans, within the boundaries of health information legislation Completion of appropriate paperwork including event checklist, incident reports, concussion incident reports and SCAT concussion forms Manage kit and supplies responsibly and appropriately in accordance to guidelines set out by the Manager of Atheltic Therapy Work in a clinical setting if assigned by the Manager of Athletic Therapy Perform injury assessments by interpreting the mechanism of injury; determining signs, symptoms and predisposing factors, illness or health related condition; performing specific physical, orthopedic or fitness testing Administer rehabilitative therapy (including electrical, thermal and mechanical modalities) using standard techniques and procedures to facilitate recovery, if assigned by Manager of Athletic Therapy to work clinically Administer therapeutic and conditioning exercise(s) to facilitate recovery from injury Educate and provide guidance to individuals in the treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of injuries, illnesses and/or health-related conditions to facilitate recovery and performance Ensure any problems and concerns are reported to the Manager of Athletic Therapy Paperwork is to be completed on line through the Electronic Medical system and other IT applications that securely story and communicate medical data Professionally interact with coaches, officials, and medical staff Employees must inform the program coordinator within 24 hours of any injury/incident that involves the hospitalization or death of any person receiving services as well as reporting legal or police intervention

Qualifications / Requirements

Certified Athletic Therapist in good standing with the CATA preferred, Completion of Athletic Therapy course work accepted and a member of the CATA accepted Proof of CATA membership required with application Current BLS certification. Copy of certificate to be included with application Current EMR or Sport First Responder Copy of certificate to be included with application Safe Sport Training Proof of completion required with application
