As aProject Accountantat ITC Construction, you will be responsible for supporting the financial and administrative management of construction projects, ensuring accurate project costing, contract documentation control, and compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements. This role assists the Project Manager and the Director of Project Accounting in monitoring project financial performance and documentation throughout the project lifecycle, from start-up to completion.

What You Will Do

• Assist the Project Manager and the Director of Project Accounting in the management of project costing which includes contract documentation controls, change orders, accounts payable, accounts receivable and required documents such as bonds, Statutory Declaration, WCB Clearance, Project Safety Reports, documents for holdback release within a given project.
• Time Schedule: Determined by size, work schedule and scope of work as defined by the project. In general, the bulk of work is scheduled as follows:
  • All Projects: Supplier invoices to be posted weekly at a minimum
  • Prime Contract: Work scheduled from the 16th of the month to the 31st of the month.
  • Construction Management Contract: Work scheduled from the 1st of the month to the 16th of the month
• Review Contracts which are issued by the Project Manager;
  • To possess a personal knowledge of contract specifications for application to costing management
  • Confirmation of entry into costing system;
  • To assure that only legal company entities are used;
  • For noting and tracking of any special contract requirements for e.g. project bonding;
  • Ensure WCB of sub/contractor verified and in good standing;
  • Ensure bonds are received, payment may be held until receipt of
• Tracking of Sub/Contractor Change Orders:
  • Ensure Subcontractor Change Orders are posted in CMiC and properly reflected in Contract Status.
  • To notify Subcontractors when change orders are not returned in a timely fashion by way of written notice in conjunction with requests for payment documentation.
  • Ensure that no monies on change orders are released to subcontractor or contractor until change order is approved and paid to the Prime Contractor
• Processing of Sub/Contractor Costs in accordance with ITC standard procedure
• Processing of Sub/Contractor Holdback Release in accordance with ITC standard procedure
• In conjunction with the Project Manager, responsible for timely release of holdback monies to sub/contractors, in accordance with lien legislation in the area of jurisdiction following declared date for substantial completion. Upon notification of substantial completion by the architect and subsequent authorization by the Project Manager.
• Responsible for issuance of Owner Progress Claims in accordance with ITC standard procedure including assisting the Project Manager in the preparation of Progress Claims, compiling, batching and organizing all subtrade invoices and other such documentation required by the Project Manager to prepare the Progress Claim, assisting the Project Manager as directed in tracking the Progress Billings.
• Monitor Project Backcharges and review with Project Manager.

This role could be for you if you have

• Proven experience as a Project Accountant or similar role in residential construction.

• Designation as a Certified General Accountant (CGA) and/or proven industry track record.

• Strong understanding of residential building processes, techniques, and safety regulations.

• Ability to understand and refer to Trade Contract and Supplier payment terms

• Well developed communication skills

• Ability to manage correspondence including written, electronic and database filing.

• Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) Working knowledge of CMiC Accounting Software is preferred, but not exclusive.
