About the role
High Tide Inc. is one of the largest global cannabis and accessories companies, operating a diverse portfolio of e-commerce and retail brands across North America and Europe, including Canna Cabana, Smoke Cartel, Daily High Club, Nuleaf Naturals, and others.
As our organization continues to grow, we are seeking a detail-driven and proactive Tax Specialist on a 6-month contract basis with potential to join us full-time to join our growing Finance team.
You will play a key role in supporting the Company’s tax compliance and strategic tax initiatives. Reporting to the Tax Manager, this role offers the opportunity to work across corporate income tax, indirect tax, international filings, and tax accounting while partnering closely with internal stakeholders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Tax Manager, the Tax Specialist is responsible for ensuring the Company's continued compliance with tax legislation along with providing strategic tax guidance for the Company's business operations.
- Prepare and file federal, state, and local income tax returns and other compliance documents.
- Prepare legal entity and consolidated income tax provision.
- Prepare multi jurisdiction indirect tax returns E.g. GST/PST/VAT/ USA sales tax.
- Prepare foreign affiliate information returns E.g. T106, T1134, T1135.
- Assist in gathering data and responding to inquiries during tax audits and examinations.
- Provide support for tax accounting and the necessary tax GL reconciliation.
- Maintain transfer pricing documentation for intercompany transactions.
- Research tax laws, regulations, and legislation to determine impact on company operations.
- Participate in tax due diligence relating to merger and acquisition opportunities.
- Ensure adherence to SOX requirements, finance processes and controls while emphasizing continuous process improvements.
- Support the development of tax strategies to minimize liabilities and ensure compliance.
Qualifications
- University degree in accounting, finance, or related fields.
- CPA Designation.
- Completion (or enrollment) of the CPA In-Depth tax course would be an asset.
- At least 3 years of work experience in corporate tax compliance.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian Tax legislation and reporting.
- Exposure to USA Tax legislation and using Avalara would be an asset.
- Well organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.
