Auto Electric Service (AES) is a locally owned wholesale distribution company serving the automotive aftermarket, agricultural, industrial, and retail sectors across Southern Saskatchewan.
Founded in 1943, AES has built a trusted reputation through strong customer relationships, deep product availability, and dependable service. Today, the company is entering a transformative growth phase with a strategy to scale operations substantially over the next 5 years.
To support this next stage of growth, AES is investing in modern logistics infrastructure, a new distribution center, and scalable operational systems.
We are seeking a Director of Logistics to lead the design, launch, and optimization of our logistics and distribution network.
This is a high-performance leadership role for an operator who thrives in execution-focused environments and has experience launching and scaling distribution center operations.
Position Overview
The Director of Logistics is responsible for designing, implementing, and scaling the logistics, warehousing, and distribution systems required to support AES’s growth strategy.
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this role will lead the launch and optimization of a new central distribution center, while also overseeing logistics operations across six branch locations serving customers across Saskatchewan.
The successful candidate will combine strategic planning with hands-on operational leadership to build a highly efficient logistics network that delivers exceptional customer service while optimizing cost and capacity.
This role requires a leader who can design systems, build high-performing teams, implement technology, and drive measurable operational improvements.
KeyResponsibilities
Logistics Strategy & Network Design
- Develop and execute a multi-year logistics strategy supporting the company’s growth and distribution network expansion.
- Design and implement scalable logistics and warehouse systems capable of supporting 2.5× business growth.
- Lead the planning, launch, and optimization of a new distribution center, including process development, staffing, ramp-up and optimization.
- Establish standardized logistics and warehouse processes across all locations with documented procedures and SOPs.
- Develop KPIs and dashboards to track service levels, productivity, costs, and operational performance.
Delivery & Transportation Management

Design and optimize delivery routes and freight strategies across Saskatchewan’s rural and urban markets.

Achieve industry-leading delivery performance while continuously improving logistics cost efficiency.

Manage relationships with freight carriers, logistics partners, and service providers.

Implement robust delivery tracking and reporting systems, including metrics for:

Delivery volume

On-time delivery rate
-
Delivery errors
-
Cost per delivery
-
Improve delivery reliability, reduce freight damage, and enhance the overall customer experience.
Warehouse Operations & Distribution Center Performance

Lead operations of the central distribution center and coordinate inventory flow across all branch locations.

Establish best-in-class warehouse processes including:

Receiving
-
Slotting and bin optimization
-
Picking and packing
-
Inventory control
-
Dock-to-stock efficiency
-
Standardize warehouse operating procedures across all facilities.

Improve warehouse productivity and order accuracy through process improvement, technology, and training.

Ensure consistent inventory accuracy and replenishment efficiency across the network.
Team Leadership & Organizational Development
- Build, develop, and lead a high-performing logistics and warehouse team.
- Recruit, train, and mentor supervisors and operational staff.
- Implement structured training programs and accessible SOP libraries.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Lead regular operational reviews, improvement initiatives, and performance coaching.
Process Improvement & Technology Implementation

Drive continuous improvement initiatives using EOS and efficiency optimization principals. EOS, Lean, and Kaizen principles.

Lead the implementation and adoption of logistics technologies including:

Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
-
ERP integrations
-
Route optimization and transportation management systems.

Partner with IT and Finance to develop real-time logistics dashboards and cost tracking tools.

Identify and implement workflow improvements that increase productivity and scalability.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain rigorous safety standards across warehouse and transportation operations.
- Implement safety protocols, training programs, and incident prevention practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits and ensure full regulatory compliance across the logistics network.
Key Performance Indicators
The Director of Logistics will be accountable for measurable operational outcomes, including:
- ≥95% on-time delivery performance
- ≥97% order accuracy
- ≥98% inventory record accuracy
- ≤24-hour dock-to-stock cycle time
- Reduction in freight cost per item and delivery cost per order
- Successful launch and optimization of the new distribution center
- High employee engagement and low turnover within the logistics team
Requirements
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
- Professional designation (CITT, P.Log., APICS CPIM/CSCP) considered an asset.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in logistics, distribution, or supply chain operations.
- Proven experience launching or significantly scaling distribution center operations.
- Experience managing regional transportation networks and freight operations.
- Demonstrated success implementing or optimizing WMS, ERP, or TMS systems.
- Experience leading logistics operations in high-growth or operational transformation environments.
