The Greater Victoria School District #61 is looking to hire a Benefits Specialist. This is a full time, continuing position working 35 hours per week.

The Greater Victoria School District provides public educational services to over 20,000 students in the Greater Victoria Area, encompassing six municipalities. To provide this service, the district has a current operating budget of $260 million and employs approximately 3,500 staff; which includes, teachers, principals and vice-principals, support staff, psychologists, speech and language pathologists and exempt managerial staff.

Under direction of the Manager of Payroll and Benefits, the Benefits Specialist performs a variety of routine and non-routine clerical/accounting functions in accordance with standard procedures in general accounting and benefits administration. This position fulfils the district’s operational responsibility for benefits administration of all employee groups by ensuring benefits are reviewed and accurate and by contributing to the efficient operation of the Payroll and Benefits Section.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Completion of the Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certificate or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Two (2) years of experience in a large, automated payroll office
• Working knowledge of automated payroll systems and benefits related legislative and accounting related requirements
• Proficient with Excel spreadsheets and word processing applications
• Experience working in a unionized environment
• Experience working with employee benefits packages

This is a 35 hour per week CUPE position at a pay rate of $33.84 per hour – Monday to Friday; 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. For a detailed job description, please click here.
