The Department of Social Development and Seniors is looking to secure transport drivers for the Children’s Summer Food Program. This program provides free meals to eligible families with school-aged children across PEI during the summer months.
Transport drivers for the Children’s Summer Food Program will report to the Manager of Strategic Initiatives (Strategy and Policy division) and/or the Program Coordinator of the Children’s Summer Food Program. Transport drivers will be required to safely deliver meals from food vendors to the identified addresses of registered program participants (one day per week for nine weeks during the summer months). Drivers must be prepared to assist with unexpected deliveries and/or situations that may arise.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Reviewing participant lists and delivery routes prior to the identified delivery day(s) each week.
- Picking up meals and cooler bags from designated vendors at the agreed upon time and location each week.
- Delivering meals to program participants. While routes will be provided, the driver may be responsible for adjusting routes to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Ensuring meals remain safe (e.g. temperature controlled) during the delivery process.
- Documenting missed deliveries, address changes and/or other incidents that occur while delivering and provide this information to program staff. Serious or imminent concerns must be reported to the Program Coordinator immediately.
- Documenting the number of kilometers travelled and hours worked and submit to program staff on a weekly basis.
- Performing pre and post inspections on the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition.
- Participating in training and/or evaluation practices as requested.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Grade 12
- Valid PEI Class 5 driver’s license (full license, with no G attached), third party liability insurance, current inspection and registration, and a safe driving record.
- The employee is required, as a condition of employment, to provide a motor vehicle for the purposes of carrying out employment functions. The vehicle must be well-maintained and in good working condition (i.e. ensure it is safe to operate).
- The employee must be physically able to lift and carry cooler bags with meals inside (up to 20 pounds).
- Must be able to use Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word) and email.
- Agree to uphold the confidentiality and information of the families who are registered for the program.
- Must maintain a professional, courteous manner.
- The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record and provide a satisfactory criminal records check, vulnerable sector check, and a Driver’s Abstract prior to beginning employment.
Other Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of food safety and handling practices.
- Experience working with children and/or vulnerable populations.
- First Aid and CPR.
