Chetwynd Secondary School requires a principal who is authentic, innovative, and resilient. This leader will have a passion for impacting student achievement, school culture and a desire to work proactively with students, staff, parents and the community, while honouring diversity and equity. This position involves a teaching responsibility. The specifics of the teaching component will be determined based on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Chetwynd Secondary enrolls approx. 275 students from grade 8 to 12.
School District No. 59 (Peace River South) is located in the beautiful Peace region of northeast British Columbia. We serve 3600 students in 18 schools. The three major centers in the district are the communities of Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, and Tumbler Ridge. _ IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE_

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Administration or related field.
  If not currently in possession of such a degree, the successful candidate must be willing to complete one within three years.

• Must hold, or be eligible to hold, teaching certification in the province of British Columbia.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

• Record of exemplary teaching at variety of grade levels in more than one school.
• School-based or district-wide leadership as a teacher and/or administrator.

• Successful experience working with, and implementing programs/intervention for, students with diverse needs.  Can provide examples of striving for equity for indigenous learners, students with complex needs, and any other identified student/group.
  

• Ability to de-escalate situations and promote positive solutions to problems.  Able to navigate difficult conversations with all partners.
  

LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES

• Experience implementing academic, social-emotional and behavioural supports and interventions that are appropriate to the needs of individual students.
• Ability to foster, maintain and restore healthy relationships that promote a positive school climate and culture that is welcoming, honours diversity, is pro-active, and demonstrates a restorative approach to student discipline.
• Demonstrates positive competencies in communication, collaboration, and teamwork. Values and promotes meaningful engagement with students, staff, parents, and community.
• Demonstrates ability to improve measured student success within the context of implementing district strategic planning goals.

• Relocation Allowance: Up to $5,000 for out of district applicants (with submission of approved receipts)
• Northern Travel Allowance: A Great Benefit at Tax Time! An amount of up to $4,000 of the salary paid to the employee shall be designated as a Northern Allowance Travel benefit. This allowance shall be in effect within the guidelines of Revenue Canada as they exist and are changed by Revenue Canada from year to year and shall end when the Revenue Canada program ends. Regular part time employees’ allowance will be prorated proportionate to the hours worked
• Remote and Rural Allowance: Teachers working in School District No. 59 are eligible to receive a remote and rural allowance, which is both an adjustment to the salary grid and an annual allowance of approximately $3,035* per FTE. Teachers on call (TOCs) are not eligible to receive this allowance

Effective December 31, 2025 School District No. 59 teachers are eligible for the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program for up to $30,000.

Employees of School District No. 59 qualify for the Canadian Revenue Agency Residency Deduction. Learn more about the Canadian Revenue Agency Residency Deduction. If you lived in a prescribed intermediate zone (Zone B), you can claim:

• A basic residency amount of $5.50 for each day that you lived in this zone; plus
• An additional residency amount of $5.50 for each day you lived in this zone if you maintained a dwelling and you are the only person claiming the basic residency amount for that period and dwelling
