The Human Resources Generalist supports the delivery of day to day HR operations and programs across the organization. This role serves as a key point of contact for employees and leaders, providing guidance on HR policies, procedures, and programs while supporting recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and HR administration.
Working closely with the HR Manager and Senior HR leadership, the HR Generalist helps ensure HR practices are consistent, compliant, and aligned with Northern Mat & Bridge’s values, culture, and business objectives.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Employee Lifecycle & HR Operations
- Support the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, role changes, and offboarding within the HRIS
- Respond to employee and manager inquiries related to HR policies, benefits, and programs
- Prepare employment documentation, including compensation change forms and employment letters
- Maintain accurate, complete, and up to date employee records in the HRIS
- Ensure confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism in all HR matters
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Manage end to end recruitment for non management and operational roles
- Create, post, and maintain job postings across internal and external platforms
- Screen resumes, conduct initial interviews, coordinate hiring processes, and complete reference checks
- Support onboarding activities, including orientation sessions and required documentation
- Assist with pre employment testing and screening requirements
Employee Relations Support
- Act as a first point of contact for routine employee relations matters
- Provide guidance on company policies, procedures, and workplace expectations
- Escalate complex or sensitive employee relations matters to the HR Manager as required
HRIS & Reporting
- Administer HRIS transactions with a high level of accuracy and timeliness
- Generate standard HR reports related to headcount, turnover, and recruitment metrics
- Support audits, compliance checks, and data validation activities
- Assist with continuous improvement of HR processes, tools, and documentation
Programs, Culture & Engagement
- Support employee engagement, wellness, and recognition initiatives
- Promote HR programs and initiatives across the organization
- Participate in job fairs, career events, and community outreach activities as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Post secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 2–4 years of progressive experience in an HR Coordinator or HR support role
- Working knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices
- Experience using HRIS platforms (Dayforce experience considered an asset)
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
- High level of accountability and a strong team first mindset
Skills & Competencies
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment when handling sensitive information
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills with high attention to detail
- Proven problem solving abilities and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast paced, team oriented environment
- Flexible and adaptable to changing operational and business demands
- Previous experience in construction or project based industries is considered an asset
- French or additional language skills are considered an asset
- Ability and willingness to travel within Canada as required
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
