As part of modernizing design practices within the Department of National Defence (DND), the Technical Specialist, Building Information Modelling (BIM) plays a key role in the integration and implementation of BIM within the technical room's multidisciplinary team. The incumbent is be responsible for implementing BIM standards developed by the DND, as well as the gradual implementation of BIM into processes for integrating different documents from various sources, enabling the modelling of over 700 buildings.
The incumbent is also involved in various design projects, and provide technical and operational support to the team. They play an active role in the development, structuring and evolution of BIM, whilst supporting the DND in the elaboration and implementation of its overall deployment strategy.
The Technical Specialist, Building Information Modelling (BIM), provides BIM support to internal clients. The incumbent acts a technical specialist, produces BIM models in response to Client-Partner requests, collaborates with peers and the Client-Partners, completes and integrates as-built drawings to models upon project completion.
KEY AND PERIODIC ACTIVITIES The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative but not all-inclusive: Primary
- Produce and Building Information Models in response to Client-Partner requests
- Provide technical advice regarding BIM (e.g. standards, software, digital workflows)
- Develop and maintain effective relationships within DCC, and with industry, the Client-Partners and/or stakeholders
- Ensure quality standards are met, in line with corporate and Client-Partner expectations
Other
- Provide administrative and project support (e.g., plan production, archiving, filing, reporting, document creation).
- Manage risk
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS General and Specific Knowledge

Formal Education and/or Certification(s) and Experience
-Minimum: college diploma in architecture, building construction or electrical/mechanical technology or related field, in addition to certification in BIM with approximately two years’ relevant experience in BIM integration, or the equivalent. -**Preferred:**ACS in BIM Digital Model Coordination

To begin a career with Defence Construction Canada (DCC), you must be a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident of Canada. As a condition of employment with DCC, a minimum reliability security status clearance is required and some roles may require secret security status clearance.
DCC is responsible for the Personnel Security Clearance process. Typically to be eligible for a "Reliability" clearance, you must have five years of verifiable background information and to be eligible for a "Secret" clearance, you must have 10 years of verifiable background information. The process usually involves reference inquiries, verification of qualifications, criminal records checks, and credit checks (as required) and may require fingerprints. The appropriate security clearance is a condition of employment and it is the candidate’s or employee’s responsibility to ensure, they are able to obtain and maintain their required security level clearance to begin or continue their employment with DCC.
