About the role
Job Description PEAK Genetics has an opportunity available to join our barn staff as a Livestock Specialist in Crossfield, AB! In this role, you will be a member of a highly skilled team supporting the daily care, health, and collection of our elite bulls. This team is also responsible for the maintenance of the facilities and equipment. As a Livestock Specialist for PEAK Genetics, you will be surrounded by people who are passionate about the agriculture industry, bovine genetics, and client satisfaction. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Handle sires of varying ages and sizes in a calm, confident manner for optimum production
- Work in a system using established protocols
- Perform regular livestock care including feeding, cleaning, moving cattle, assisting with health testing and veterinary treatments, and other routine tasks
- Operate company farm equipment and vehicles
- Clean and maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment
Qualifications Required
- Comfortable working with large animals
- Willingness to learn and follow company protocols
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to perform occasional planned weekend duties
- Capability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds
- Capacity to work on feet and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to move safely through a tight space of 13-15' to exit livestock pens in case of emergency
Desired
- Previous livestock handling experience
- Experience detecting health and disease symptoms in cattle
- Ability to perform basic equipment and building maintenance repairs
- Post-secondary education in agriculture or related field
Ideal
- Basic computer skills working with Microsoft Office
