With the continued growth and development of our businesses we have an opening in the Dartmouth location for a highly skilled and motivated Concrete Superintendent to join the Miller team. We provide a stable, challenging and rewarding environment for professional growth and development.
Day in the Life
No two days are the same as a Concrete Superintendent. You’ll start your morning by meeting with forepersons and crews to review safety priorities, schedules, and project goals before heading into the field. Throughout the day, you'll oversee concrete operations, from removals and grading to machine-poured curb, gutter, sidewalks, and other flatwork, ensuring every project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You’ll collaborate closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and landowners while supporting and mentoring your team, solving challenges in real time, and keeping operations running smoothly across multiple crews and job sites.
Above all, you'll champion a strong culture of safety, ensuring every team member returns home safely at the end of each day.
Responsibilities
Oversee and ensure Miller Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures are upheld at all times on all crews under their supervision Oversee the day to day aspects of all concrete and associated prep operations including removal of existing concrete, excavation and grading of surfaces and placement of concrete such as machine poured curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveways and miscellaneous concrete projects. Work closely with Project Managers to plan project sequencing and crew allocations Coordinating all field functions including scheduling of any labour, equipment, materials or subcontractor requirements Manage crew members including identification of crew needs, hiring/and promotions, performance management and coaching and mentoring. Support on-site forepersons by providing information, resources and training required to execute the work safely, at a high level of quality and on schedule and budget. Oversee the use of Miller-owned specialized equipment including ensuring safe operation, and adequate maintenance and upkeep. Working closely with the General Superintendent to manage costs Managing suppliers and subcontractors to ensure compliance with general contract, and all applicable Environmental, Health and Safety regulations Managing land owner concerns, Right-of-Way Access Track and summarize extra work Direct liaison with consultants, sub-contractors and our site personnel
Requirements
10+ years experience in road construction with specific experience in flatworks such as curb and gutter and sidewalk construction with relevant experience in machine-pouring operations HRM experience considered an asset Have good computer knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Be a team player with excellent verbal and written communications skills Demonstrate effective leadership, conflict resolution skills and the ability to Interpret and manage competing priorities under time constraints
