About the role
Position Description:
The successful incumbent will:
- Sports Fields: Maintain and perform all official sports field dimensions for baseball diamonds, soccer pitches, bowling green etc., as well as proper lining and grooming procedures and requirements for safe playable surfaces; maintain and clean outdoor sports facilities including players’ benches, backstops, fence lines and under bleachers while being attentive of scheduled tournaments and fulfilling requirements for set-up; carry out assigned tasks with minimal disruption to play.
- Parks/Trails/Beach: splash pad maintenance and recording daily maintenance; litter pick up and trash removal; washroom maintenance; grass maintenance equipment maintenance and servicing; playground maintenance; set up/take down of the required equipment and items needed for special events; repairs to benches, fences, bleachers, grass cutting, weed eating, pruning shrubs/trees, maintain garden beds; trail grooming; shoreline clean up.
- Pool Facility: assist with inspecting and monitoring outdoor pool equipment; assist in maintaining pool by cleaning, painting, vacuuming, shocking and chlorinating.
- Facility Maintenance: graffiti removal from buildings and structures; cleaning, painting, basic carpentry and plumbing repairs; monitor and record building systems (HVAC, security, fire systems); stripping/waxing floors.
- Foster productive public relations and engagement as a community interface, while providing exceptional customer service.
- Safe and efficient operation, care and maintenance of tools, equipment and vehicles (i.e. grass maintenance equipment, tractors, trucks, front-end loaders, water tanks and small equipment including all auxiliary attachments).
- Perform daily circle checks on all equipment and reporting defects to the immediate supervisor.
- Maintain daily written records of work-related activities.
- Laboring duties include climbing, lifting, balancing, kneeling, stooping, walking, handling materials to assist in the maintenance of Norfolk County facilities and infrastructure. You will be required to work in an outdoor environment.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled or recently graduated in a University or College program in Horticultural Technician, Landscape Technician, Environmental Technician, Turf Management, Agriculture, General Carpentry or Rec and Leisure (or related field)
- Valid province of Ontario Class “G” license and access to a reliable vehicle including the ability to provide a drivers abstract when requested during the recruitment process.
- Ability to work in a team environment, accept and follow verbal and written instructions, complete duties to an acceptable level of quantity and quality with minimal supervision and follow all of Norfolk County Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
- Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively.
- Good time management, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be motivated, hardworking individual able to work outside in all weather (hot, dusty, cold and wet).
- Ability to safely operate various tools and equipment related to general maintenance.
- Must have green patch CSA approved safety boots, 6” – 8” to cover ankle, suede or leather.
Note:
Must be willing to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
Employment is conditional upon: attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
At time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.
