Senior Project Manager & Interim PMO Department Manager
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of complex projects while providing interim leadership and direction for the Project Management Office (PMO). This is a long-term Senior PM role with focus on strengthening project execution, supporting department operations, and providing leadership continuity during a one-year maternity leave period. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving project delivery excellence, ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with business objectives. In addition to managing key projects, this role will provide strategic leadership to the PMO team, improve project management practices, support resource planning, and help establish consistent processes, reporting, and governance across the organization. This position will provide strategic and operational oversight of the project management department, while also actively manage projects and support cross-functional alignment.
Responsibilities Project Delivery · Own the end-to-end delivery of projects ranging from $500K to $10M+, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and within scope. · Apply governance and project controls in accordance with QCA’s PMO methodologies. · Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks proactively. · Communicate policies, priorities, and direction clearly to project teams. · Lead or facilitate client and internal meetings throughout the project lifecycle. · Manage project budgets, scope, schedules, and quality measures, report on progress, risks, and deviations. · Oversee the Quality Manager, provide mentorship and support the integration of the QA/QC with the other departments.
Department Leadership · Provide strategic direction to the Project Management team in alignment with QCA’s business goals. Responsible for department business planning and budget. · Lead departmental planning, resource allocation, and workload balancing to ensure operational efficiency. · Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement and accountability. · Represent the Project Management function in senior leadership discussions and cross-functional initiatives. · Mentor, coach, and develop project managers to build team capability and engagement. Raise the level of effectiveness of the individual PM’s and the PM department. · Create and enhance project management tools and methodologies, ensure adherence to project management processes, to build a high performing, accountable and collaborative team culture.
Education & Experience · Degree in an engineering field from a recognized institution is preferred. · P.Eng. designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) is desired but not mandatory. · PMP Certification is required. · Experience with managing EIC (Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls) disciplines within a project is a requirement. · Minimum 10 years of progressive project management experience, including leadership or team lead responsibilities. · Strong business acumen and ability to see the “big picture” in project and resource planning. · Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven ability to influence stakeholders at all levels. · Track record of building high-performing teams and fostering a culture of collaboration.
