About the role
Associate Physicians support the supervision, assessment, and medical management of patients on assigned services. Reporting to a Supervising Physician, they respond to consultation requests in the Emergency Department and other inpatient units, complete admission histories and physical examinations, and regularly review assigned patient cases with their Supervising Physician. Associate Physicians are expected to follow established clinical pathways, guidelines, and protocols, contribute to differential diagnoses, order and interpret appropriate investigations, and support treatment planning. Under the direction of the Supervising Physician, they may perform procedures within the supervising physician’s scope of practice. Timely communication of changes in a patient’s condition and new clinical information to the Supervising Physician and other involved providers is essential. This position requires accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, discharge planning, and discharge summaries. Associate Physicians work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary care team to support patient stabilization, ongoing assessment, and response to evolving medical needs throughout each shift. The role also includes participation in structured teaching sessions, formal evaluations, and quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
