Job Summary:
The Network Enterprise Specialist is responsible for supporting the Data Centre core switching/routing, Internet services, Division Network Wide Area Network (WAN), network security, and voice systems. This role ensures the maintenance and operation of Division data centers and end-to-end networking, providing timely, reliable, and cost-effective network services across the Division. The position contributes to the design and architecture of new network designs and security practices, continuously improving network connectivity to meet global standards and Division requirements. Additionally, the specialist performs network capacity planning and resolves all network-related issues to ensure uninterrupted services.
-Manage System Upgrades and Configuration Changes
- Perform system upgrades and configuration changes to core devices in the data center
- Utilize in-depth knowledge of routing, switching, and network design to ensure optimal performance
- Collaborate with IT teams to implement changes and minimize downtime
- Document all changes and procedures to maintain accurate records
- Ensure upgrades and configurations align with organizational goals and standards.
2. Develop and Implement Disaster Recovery Plans
- Create and maintain disaster recovery plans for all mission-critical systems and data
- Document instructions and procedures to ensure rapid and reliable recovery in case of system failure
- Conduct regular tests and updates to ensure the effectiveness of recovery plans
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify potential risks and mitigation strategies
- Ensure plans comply with industry standards and best practices.
3. Resolve Complex Network Issues
- Conduct root cause analysis to troubleshoot and resolve high-priority network issues
- Interface with staff, clients, and vendors to diagnose and correct network-related problems
- Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and resolve issues
- Document resolutions and share knowledge with team members
- Ensure network stability and reliability to support business operations.
4. Provide Technical Leadership and Support
- Offer technical leadership on project teams to design and implement network solutions
- Provide network support for all approved business and educational applications
- Assist in capacity planning and procurement of networking devices
- Mentor and guide entry-level technical staff in areas of expertise
- Maintain technical knowledge through professional development activities.
5. Manage Network Access and Security
- Oversee network access and security to protect private and confidential data
- Implement security measures to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches
- Monitor network activity to identify potential security threats
- Collaborate with security teams to develop and enforce security policies
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary diploma or 7 years' experience in networking; Cisco Certification, CCNP or equivalent industry certification.
- Understanding of compliance regulations and industry standards
- In-depth knowledge of Cisco IOS and configuration
- Awareness of security threats and vulnerabilities and practical understanding of wireless networks/security
- Knowledge of project management principles and information management practices
- General knowledge of the Division’s operations and business and general understanding of the Division’s mission and vision in a faith-based environment.
- Knowledge of records management principles, the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), and the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
- Proficiency in troubleshooting data center issues, including routing problems with OSPF, BGP, and MPLS
- Ability to influence decision-making and recommend alternatives or courses of action
- Strong time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Ability to present complex technical solutions to large audiences along with strong technical writing and documentation skills
- Strong consultation, facilitation, and negotiation skills
