About the role
Alberta Blue Cross® is an Alberta based organization dedicated to delivering exceptional customer experience and community leadership. We’re committed to providing the best health coverage to over 1.8 million members and take an active role in promoting wellness. We believe in what we do—and place trust in our employees to deliver our vision.
Working at Alberta Blue Cross® means having a career where you’ll be recognized for your contributions. We value diversity, encourage our team members to maintain a healthy work-life balance and provide opportunities for career growth.
OVERVIEW:
As the successful candidate, you will design and deliver enterprise‑grade automations on Microsoft Power Platform. You will work closely with business teams and product owners to identify and prioritize opportunities, translate requirements into robust technical designs, and take solutions from build through testing, deployment, hyper care and support.
Your primary toolkit will include Power Automate (cloud flows and Power Automate for desktop/RPA), Power Apps (Canvas and Model‑driven), and Dataverse, integrating across Microsoft 365 and enterprise systems. You’ll also apply AI to accelerate delivery and improve outcomes—using AI in Power Automate/Power Apps and organization‑approved LLMs for natural‑language authoring and assistance; where appropriate, you’ll explore agent‑based scenarios with Copilot Studio for conversational and autonomous task orchestration.
Success in this role requires partnering across Process Automation, IT Operations, Security, Enterprise Architecture, and business stakeholders to ensure solutions are secure, resilient, and governed in line with Power Platform Center of Excellence (CoE) practices. Your work will drive measurable efficiency gains and enhance the employee and customer experience.
This position is a hybrid role, and you will be required to commute to either our Edmonton and or Calgary location.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Own end‑to‑end delivery of automations using Power Automate solutions—from process definition through design, build, test, deployment, and hyper‑care, in partnership with business product owners.
- Engage business teams to identify/prioritize opportunities; translate requirements into technical designs and solution backlogs, and support intake and sizing.
- Develop solutions that align to platform patterns (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse) and environment/ALM strategy so downstream deployment and operations are predictable.
- Build and enhance apps/flows across Power Automate, Power Apps (Canvas/Model‑driven), and Dataverse; integrate securely with Microsoft 365 and enterprise systems using solution‑aware connection references and environment‑specific configuration.
- Deliver RPA with Power Automate for desktop for attended/unattended scenarios; leverage machine groups to scale unattended workloads efficiently.
- Use AI to accelerate outcomes—apply Copilot studio for agents, Copilot in Power Automate (cloud and desktop) for natural‑language authoring/repair, and AI Builder for document processing, prediction, and prompt‑based actions where appropriate.
- Engineer for quality and resilience: implement reusable components and patterns (logging, exception handling, notifications, retries); instrument flows with alerts and run‑history checks; manage work queues and 360º monitoring for stable operations.
- Maintain and create PDDs/SDDs, test cases, data mappings, deployment instructions, and runbooks; track work in Azure Boards or Jira for end‑to‑end traceability.
- Practice modern DevOps/ALM: work in Git‑based repos and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps/GitHub), apply solution layering, managed solutions, environment variables, and deployment approvals.
- Operate and support in production: provide triage and problem management, root‑cause analysis, defect fixes, and continuous improvement of automations and apps.
- Contribute to the Digital Workplace - Center of Excellence team: deliver trainings, support User groups, contribute to CoE community, follow governance guardrails, catalog assets, enable makers, and ensure compliance with security, privacy, and records‑management standards.
WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:
- A related degree/diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Five years plus in automation development, including three plus years hands‑on experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate cloud/desktop, Power Apps, Dataverse) delivering production solutions at scale.
- Expertise with resilient selectors, UI automation patterns, exception handling/retries, and design for attended/unattended execution (including hosted machine groups).
- Experience in solution layering, managed solutions, connection references/environment variables, code reviews, automated builds/releases.
- Experience working in Agile teams (sprint planning, standups, demos, retros) and strong communication with product owners and stakeholders.
- Scripting/development in one or more: PowerShell, .NET/C#, Python; ability to write clean, maintainable code/components.
- Exposure to Azure services: Logic Apps, Functions, API Management and Azure AI (Document Intelligence, Language, Azure OpenAI Service) where appropriate.
- Experience with Custom connectors, PCF components, or Dataverse plugins is beneficial.
- Professional certifications like PL-900, PL-500 (RPA Developer) or PL-400 are highly preferred.
- Experience in insurance or healthcare industry would be considered an asset.
This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is selected.
