About the role

This position has an initial appointment of 1 year.
Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
This position is part of the Li Ka Shing Applied Virology Institute (LKSAVI). The Senior Research Associate will lead and manage advanced light microscopy and electron microscopy activities to support the HCV Vaccine program and will provide light and electron microscopy expertise to the HCV vaccine and all other projects ongoing in the AVI.
This role will design, conduct, and analyze complex imaging and structural biology experiments, working closely with collaborators within LKSAVI and the MMI department’s core cryo-EM facilities.
The Senior Research Associate will assist on HCV virology. The Senior Research Associate will play a key role in determining the atomic structure of the HCV E1E2 vaccine antigen and contribute to structural studies of lipid nanoparticle carriers for RNA therapeutics. The position also assists with molecular biology and cell culture work across LKSAVI laboratories.
The Research Associate is a full-time Academic Trust appointment. The Research Associate will report to the Director of the LKSAVI.

Carrying out high level research activities under the direction of the Director, including:
- Lead and manage light & EM microscopy analyses with colleagues within the LKSAVI
and its collaborators. - Interact with the MMI dept's core cryo-EM labs to perform structural biology
interrogations on LKSAVI programs - Lead work on trying to determine the atomic structure of the HCV E1E2 vaccine antigen
- Work with the Grant Development & Scientific Writing specialist at LKSAVI in using cryo-
EM to determine atomic structures of lipid nanoparticle carriers for RNA - Assist and support work on developing viral RNA vaccines including against HCV
- Assist and support molecular biology and cell culture work in the LKSAVI
PhD in Experimental Medicine
The applicant's experience and skills should include:
- Requires 10 years of proven experience and leadership in the above areas;
- Proven ability to lead microscopy and molecular biology projects;
- Excellent working knowledge of research methodology;
- Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills; and,
- Excellent leadership within a team environment.

This position offers a comprehensive benefits package with an annual salary range of $80,772 to $111,086.
