About the role
AltaSteel is looking for a detail-oriented, customer-focused Scalehouse Operator to join our team. Reporting to the Scalehouse Manager, the Scalehouse Operator works in a fast-paced industrial environment and must be accurate and detail oriented. The incumbent is the first point of contact for all drivers delivering and picking up products at AltaSteel, and must represent the company in a professional, courteous manner. In addition, the incumbent would enjoy working closely with colleagues and forming new working relationships daily with external stakeholders and internal departments.
Responsibilities:
- Direct, scale and ticket all inbound and outbound rail cars and trucks
- Request and organize trucks from outbound shipments daily, ensuring each customer gets the right product on time, in the right quantities
- Daily verbal communication – in person and radio communication
- Daily data entry into site specific computer programs
- Experience communicating via email in a professional manner
- Inspect and ensure the quality of incoming products
- Follow proper procedures and processes
- Adapt to and problem solve scenarios as they arise
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience as a Scalehouse Operator, Dispatcher or Shipper/Receiver will be considered an asset however other equivalencies will be considered.
- Proficient computer skills and ability to learn new software programs
- Strong safety and customer service mindset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work in close quarters with colleagues
- An excellent eye for detail and good judgment
Job Details:

In- town work

Monday to Friday, 8-hour days with required overtime during the beginning and end of the month to support the influx in shipping/receiving needs.
