This is an exciting opportunity with the Community Rehabilitation Interdisciplinary Services (CRIS) within Assisted Living Alberta, Specialty Programs for a Recreation Therapist interested in working with adults living in the community who have multi-disciplinary rehabilitation needs. The CRIS program is seeking a Recreation Therapist I to provide recreation therapy, patient assessment, and treatment to community dwelling adults with complex and neurological conditions. This position provides the opportunity to work within an interdisciplinary team including Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Physical Therapy, and Social Work and a variety of other disciplines. The successful candidate will be required to maintain adequate clinical records, provide rehabilitation services using a hybrid model (in person and virtual), provide rehabilitation consultation to other staff, as well as mentor and supervise Recreation Therapy students and Therapy Assistants. The ability to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide effective and appropriate patient care and discharge planning is an essential part of this role. This position supports CRIS services offered at all three locations (Strathcona Community Hospital, Kaye Edmonton Clinic, Mother Rosalie Health Services Centre).

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 years recent experience working with neurological patients and patients with complex needs. Must possess strong assessment, communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated problem solving, planning and organization skills. Must demonstrate a strong patient/family-centered approach to care. Working knowledge of computer applications including word processing, email and internet access. Ability to be self-directed and to effectively work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Must possess a sound understanding of the community and the determinants of health. Strong assessment, critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). The Recreation Therapist may be required to maintain a standing position and perform up to a medium level of work (20-50 lbs. handled occasionally) including bending and/or rotation related to client transfers or therapeutic intervention. Recreation Therapists may sit for long periods of time on small chairs/stools or on the floor depending on the site. Required to bend, pull, lift, perform variable movements and position changes (may be required to assume awkward positions). Initiative and ability to work independently in clinical and virtual settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree, experience working in Connect Care is considered an asset. Experience working in an outpatient clinic setting. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams. Experience supervising Therapy Assistants and students. Experience providing virtual assessment and treatment. Group facilitation skills preferred.
