Location: Edmonton, Edmonton Research Park Work Model: Hybrid The Opportunity As a Team Lead, Procurement, you will be responsible for leading and participating in the day-to-day delivery of procurement services, ensuring the timely and compliant acquisition of goods and services to support organizational operations. This role provides hands-on procurement expertise while coordinating team activities and offering functional guidance. The position also provides procurement guidance and advice to internal stakeholders on sourcing approaches, contract considerations, and risk factors, supporting consistent and informed decision-making within established policies and frameworks. The Team Lead will also manage daily staff activities, including assigning and directing work, monitoring productivity, work quality and workloads, ensuring adherence to policies and practices standards. Meeting regularly with staff to provide guidance, review, analyze, and develop actionable plans to meet business needs. The position operates within defined procurement policies, legislative requirements, and organizational procedures, contributing to effective purchasing, contract administration, vendor management, and continuous improvement of procurement practices.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for duties that will include: Deliver and Coordinate Procurement Operations Coordinate and participate in day-to-day procurement activities including sourcing, purchasing, and contract administration. Prepare and administer procurement documents (RFQs, RFPs, requisitions, purchase orders). Ensure goods and services meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements. Monitor procurement requests, priorities, and timelines to ensure service levels are met.
Provide Team Coordination and Functional Leadership
Provide day-to-day direction, guidance, and support to procurement staff. Assign and prioritize work activities while balancing operational demands. Support onboarding, training, and development of team members. Act as a point of escalation for procurement-related issues. Contribute to performance feedback and coaching in collaboration with manager.
Ensure Compliance and Policy Adherence
Ensure procurement activities comply with organizational policies, trade agreements, and applicable legislation. Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements (e.g., public procurement, trade, and contract compliance). Identify gaps or risks in procurement processes and recommend improvements. Support updates and implementation of procurement procedures.
Support Vendor and Stakeholder Management
Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to support effective service delivery and issue resolution. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand requirements and provide strategic procurement advice such as guidance on sourcing strategies, vendor selection, contract approach, and risk mitigation. Monitor supplier performance and escalate issues where required. Participate in negotiations for low to moderate complexity procurements.
Contribute to Operational Planning and Reporting
Track procurement activities and support reporting requirements (e.g., purchasing metrics, spend tracking.) Assist in budget tracking and forecasting related to procurement activities. Identify opportunities for efficiencies, cost savings, and process improvements. Support implementation of tools, systems, or continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide Strategic Procurement Guidance
Provide guidance to internal clients on procurement approaches aligned with established policies and organizational requirements. Recommend sourcing approaches (e.g., competitive vs. non-competitive) based on complexity, value, and market conditions Support development of procurement strategies. Identify opportunities to improve value, reduce risk, and enhance procurement outcomes through strategic approaches.
Qualifications and Skills
Required Diploma in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field 7 years of progressive procurement or supply chain experience Experience providing functional guidance and supervisor or leadership is preferred Strong organizational and prioritization skills Effective communication and stakeholder management skills Negotiation and problem-solving abilities Ability to balance operational tasks with leadership responsibilities.
Analytical thinking and attention to detail
Preferred Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP), Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP), or equivalent designation preferred.
