Position Title: Agriculture Technician

Overview: This summer agriculture technician position is an entry-level temporary position for those interested in agricultural sciences, supply chain management, or potato crop research. This role provides hands-on experience in supporting the raw potato supply chain, with a primary focus on agronomy and new variety research trial support, extension activities, and commercial crop intelligence gathering through field production and storage management.
Key Responsibilities Agronomy Research Trial and Extension Support:
- Assist in execution of research trials related to potato variety performance, agronomic performance, and soil health from planting to harvest.
- Collect agronomic data, including crop growth measurements, disease observations, and yield estimates as directed by regional Agronomist.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in record-keeping and sample handling.
- Support regional agronomists by preparing materials, attending field days, and helping organize outreach events for growers.
New Variety Evaluation Support
- Participate in commercial-scale evaluations examining new potato varieties for yield, quality, disease resistance, and suitability for commercial production.
- Record and summarize observational data to inform the regional teams on varieties to advance.
Commercial Crop Intelligence And Storage Management
- Gather and report real-time crop development information from field visits across the growing region.
- Assist in assessments of crop health, expected production, and emerging challenges.
- Contribute to regular field scouting rotations, assist with irrigation and nutrient monitoring, and help coordinate logistical activities for planting and harvest.
- Support post-harvest data collection on storage conditions and quality retention.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to follow protocols, and effective communication skills.
