Position Description
A temporary part time (0.6) Literacy Support/Resource Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The assignment will be at Bert Bowes Middle School.
Bert Bowes Middle School is a Gr. 7-9 school in the City of Fort St John. The school enrolls a population of 500 students. We enjoy itinerant access to a range of services such as a learning resource disability teacher, teacher for visually impaired, school psychologist, ESL specialist teacher and teacher for deaf/hard of hearing. Some themes that characterize our school are a commitment to student centered learning, and a focus on collaborative planning. ** ** Please note that part-time teachers may be required to attend Pro-D or other non-instructional days on days when they are not regularly scheduled to work.
** Qualifications and Experience **
- Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
- Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the middle years level
- Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
- Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
- Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
- Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
- Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
- Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
- Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
- Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
- Ability to plan and facilitate in-services or collaboration sessions with educators and Educational Assistants within and beyond the regular school day
- Demonstrated high level of self-regulation and professionalism
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of instruction, assessment, and intervention strategies
- Have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills
- Strong skills/familiarity with district reading assessments including PM Benchmarks and Read73
- Experience and willingness to support literacy initiatives in the district K-12
- Demonstrated understanding of the Language Arts curriculum K-9
- Experience utilizing data to identify and address learning needs
- Possess current knowledge of programs, support services, classroom resources, and issues related to vulnerable learners
- Maintain a current knowledge base of research in the foundational components of early literacy, including but not limited to : oral language development, phonological and phonemic awareness, play-based learning, reading, writing, etc.
- Ability to plan and model lessons in classrooms
- Strong classroom management skills
- Experience and demonstrated knowledge in successfully planning Literacy instruction with the UDL framework
- Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement Literacy learning plans for students with academic, social and emotional learning difficulties
- Willingness to work in a collaborative model with LS staff and schools
- Ability to use technology as part of the role including Google platforms and Microsoft Sharepoint
- Strong background in district/appropriate learning resources including Digmore
- Demonstrated experience in designing, facilitating or co-facilitating professional development opportunities and in services for district staff, support staff and parents
- Ability to participate in meetings, in services and workshops outside of the regular school day
- Understanding of adult learners
- Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and First Peoples Principles of Learning

Compensation
- $2,000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4,000 for teachers from other areas
- $3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
- Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 to $111,952
- Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
