Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Shelter Residential Worker B provides a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors.
ACCOUNTABILITIES: Client/Program Support
- Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and morale support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medications
- Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. welfare, police, parole, urgent situations)
- Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in doing bed checks, room/personal searches
- May carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and procedures
- Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules; ensures ongoing enforcement of policies enforces behaviour-based restrictions outlined by caseworkers or supervisory staff
- May serve as Receptionist for Shelter - Answers phones, takes messages, responds to community inquiring and directs incoming requests
- May prepare or provide simple meals for clients/residents
- Performs other duties as assigned

- Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports
WORKING CONDITIONS:

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a shelter and/or transitional housing and/or supportive housing

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- The successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.
- The successful applicant will hold/have a diploma in Social Services
- CPR, First Aid Certification
- Criminal Record Check
- Non-Violent Crisis Training an asset
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- The incumbent must have more than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including experience with frontline work in a social service setting.

**SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday,**6am - 2:30pm
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Praesidium Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
The salary range is based on the Collective Agreement, not any other factors.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $23.64 to $24.02 with a maximum of $24.39.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
