The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport is seeking a strategically focused individual with exceptional leadership abilities for the role of Park Manager at Good Spirit Lake Provincial Park.
Reporting to the Regional Director of the Parks Division, as the senior on-site manager, you will be responsible for the strategic outlook for the provincial park. As the successful candidate you will implement and manage annual operating budgets to deliver park programming and capital upgrades. You will also develop, implement, and oversee annual operational plans and resource management plans to ensure efficiency, optimal customer service, security of assets and compliance with legislation and policy. You will develop, collaborate, and implement park management strategies, capital planning and ecosystem management plans.
The Park Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations assigned to the park. Employee management is critical, and this position must be aware of human resource principles and practices, including supervision, staffing, and performance evaluation and coaching. You will negotiate and establish local partnerships and sponsorships to promote programs and events to attract visitors and enhance revenues. You will work with all park stakeholders, particularly the commercial lease operators within the park. Also, you will administer campgrounds (including central reservation) and commercial leases (including site inspections, building codes, trespasses, encroachments and compliance) and park contracts/agreements such as service contracts.
Our candidate of choice will be strategic-oriented and possess strong leadership skills. You will have the ability to develop, implement and oversee strategies, operational plans and park management strategies. You will have extensive knowledge of various acts and regulations (i.e., The Parks Act, OH&S, etc.) to ensure a safe work environment for staff and a safe environment for visitors. Your ability to constructively manage and lead employees is critical. You will have experience with budgeting; knowledge/experience with commercial revolving fund budgeting would be an asset, but not a requirement. You will possess exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse interest groups (i.e., park customers, cottage owners, commercial lessees, First Nations groups, other government agencies, etc.) which will enable you to effectively influence, convince or persuade others to achieve an agreeable solution and/or understanding of issues.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position will be obtained through formal education in Integrated Resource Management, Park and Recreation Management, Tourism Management, Environmental Sciences or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. A current and valid driver’s license is a requirement for this position.
