Current Shifts: Primarily Days - 8hrs (Approx. 15hrs per/wk)

Position Summary:

The practice of the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Counsellor will encompass two areas: the provision of direct counselling services to patients and families to assist them in coping with the aftermath of sexual assault and/or domestic violence, and program development, including staff development, community collaboration, clinical consultation, research and planning as well as administrative functions.

In accordance with the standards of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (or relevant regulatory body) and the mission, vision, values and policies of GGH, the Social Workers /Counsellor/Psychotherapist provides high quality, safe, effective and evidence-based care in partnership with the patient and family.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

• Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) or Master’s Degree of Counselling (MC) or Registered Psychotherapist (RP)
• Current membership, and in good standing, with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
• Demonstrated excellent knowledge base in trauma informed care
• Well-developed skill in risk assessment, establishing safety plans, providing supportive counseling/therapy
• Demonstrated knowledge of available community resources
• Excellent working knowledge of Consent and Capacity Legislation, Social Work Code of Ethics, Mental Health Legislation and the Heath Care Consent Act
• Demonstrated excellent knowledge base in discharge planning
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex cases
• Highly developed program planning, case management and time management skills
• Demonstrated leadership and problem solving abilities
• Well-developed skill in risk assessment, establishing safety plans, providing brief supportive counseling and mediation
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a self-directed manner as well as collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
• Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
