SALARY:****$42.36 per hour
**HOURS OF WORK:******Thirty-five (35) hours per week
The Haida Gwaii School District No. 50 is seeking interested qualified applicants for the position of Child & Youth Wellness Support Worker. The Child & Youth Wellness Support Worker works under the direction of the District Principal of Early Learning and Child Care**** and the supervision of the school principals. In the course of duties, the incumbent will collaborate with teachers, Indigenous resource workers, education assistants, parents and others in the community in the support of high-risk students in the management of behaviours which interfere with personal, social and educational growth. The incumbent adheres to guidelines and policies regarding confidentiality and the duty to report.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferably in Social Work, Psychology or Child and Youth Care, or equivalent field of study.
- Practical experience and training working directly with at-risk students and their families demonstrated by a minimum of two years experience e.g. mental wellness, social, and/or behaviour problems.
- Knowledge of, and ability to apply an understanding of Indigenous cultural principles and protocols in work situations and within the community.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and understanding of cultural impacts within the education environment.
- Knowledge of social work or psychiatric principles, techniques and practices and their application to casework, group, and community problems and an understanding of the laws and regulations governing those systems.
- Knowledge of and experience in family and group dynamics, and a range of intervention techniques.
- A broad knowledge of social behavioural issues and ability to provide appropriate support in these areas.
- Familiarity with community resources. (i.e. financial, safety, housing, counselling, mental health services).
- Capable of developing and presenting educational programs and/or workshops to classes, staff, or community members.
- Ability to complete and submit District and Ministry reports.
- Ability to engage in assigned tasks without direct supervision.
- Ability to work flexible hours within assigned weekly hours.
- Willingness to obtain WorkSafe BC – Level 1 First Aid if requested.
- Valid BC Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
- Training and/or experience in the use of computers at a level appropriate to the position.
