Superintendent Sustainability

Atlantic Operations is a wholly owned subsidiary of St Barbara Limited, an ASX listed gold producer and explorer with mining assets in Canada and Australia. We are currently seeking a Sustainability Superintendent for a 14-month parental leave term to lead permitting, environmental studies, and development activities for the 15 Mile, Beaver Dam, and Cochrane Hill projects in Nova Scotia.

This is a full-time term position reporting to the General Manager, Projects, and will be based out of the regional office in Halifax

The Opportunity

• Champion excellence and leadership in creating a positive safety culture, and actively support the company’s objectives, policies, procedures, safe work practices, and relevant Acts and Regulations.
• Work in a fast paced and dynamic industry, contributing to the design and advancement of the next gold mining projects in Nova Scotia. This role offers the opportunity to have a direct impact on project outcomes while growing professionally within a company focused on responsible development, innovation, and long-term value creation.
• Coordinate internal support teams and external consultants in the execution of permitting, environmental studies, and field programs required to advance projects through Environmental Assessment and associated permitting processes.
• Participate in project risk and opportunity identification while supporting strong project control practices through an understanding of the social and financial impacts of project changes.
• Plan long-term project activities months to years in advance to align permitting timelines with engineering requirements and overall project development, including developing appropriate scopes of work.
• Coordinate multiple projects and consultants concurrently in a timely and effective manner to ensure cost, schedule, and delivery objectives are achieved.
• Integrate engineering, environmental, and permitting disciplines to support project scoping, budgeting, and risk identification for robust business cases, design considerations, and permitting applications.
• Support community meetings and events as a company representative, responding to questions about the projects and engaging with community members as required.
• Plan and implement key field programs, including acting as field program supervisor where required.

Our Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate

• Current Class 5 Driver’s License
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related and relevant discipline.
• Five to ten years of direct or related experience
• Proven success coordinating technical teams both internally and externally.
• Experience with Provincial and Federal regulations and permitting requirements such as Impact Assessment, Environmental Assessments, Fisheries Authorizations etc.
