About the role
Job Description
The Training & Coaching Supervisor will play an integral role in supporting both apprentices, and the continuous development of the skilled trades in the work force. This will be achieved through training program development, facilitating employee training, record keeping, continuous learning initiatives, identifying employee’s skill gaps and developing then implementing an action plan that aligns with the goals of the company. To refine skillset, agility, and keep up to date with production requirements up to 15% of this role may include Production Supervision. This is a day shift position but occasional work on weekends, 2nd or backshift will be required, depending on business needs.
Responsibilities
Apprentice skill development: Monitor and support the on-the-job skill development of our apprentices through mentoring, coaching, and training in progression towards Red Seal certification. Deliver and develop trade training. Lead a team of employees (unionized skill coaches, trades, trainees) ensuring compliance to HSE policies, job performance, CBA requirements, and Quality while managing tools & material efficiently. Ensure accurate time entry for assigned employees while maintaining cost through assigned budgets. Support apprentice recruitment activities by participating in interviews/selection processes with production leadership. Provide back up to production for supervisor absenteeism. This includes performing all supervisor duties for Safety, cost, schedule, quality, and people.
Qualifications
Education:Red Seal certification or equivalent Experience: 4-7 years Production Supervisor, Production Work Lead, Chargehand or trades work experience in an industrial environment; Supervisor experience is required. Proficient in Microsoft office suite of programs. Technically Familiar with industrial marine new construction & repair. Coaching and skill development; including coaching plans, performance improvement, & recognition. Supervisory; including conflict resolution and performance management. Safety and compliance experience. Must be open to taking additional training on new skills. Must be available to travel to different Irving Shipbuilding Inc. worksites.
All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
